I'm gonna shoot that guy - let's have some pie*
Last night after eating and putting away, Eor was reading on the bed (exhausted from having been on his gouty foot for so long, cooking). I went to join him for a little snuggle time before starting the pie.
Me: "Hi, I've come to lie next to you and tell you I love you, even if we have been bickering all day. I almost just wrote on my LJ how it's amazing that we can do a good, traditional Thanksgiving bicker even without extended family present."
Eor: "We didn't bicker hard.
Me: "No, but we did it with staying power."
Eor: "That's because neither of us knew what we were doing." (as far as cooking a turkey - it's the second time we've ever tried, and the first time was fifteen years ago.) "So we had to revert to something we know well." *grinned* and *thumbs up*
Me: *giggling* "Reaching consensus through 'grr,' 'arr,' 'snap'?"
After my giggling subsided...
Me: "So, ready for the next round - making pie?"
Eor: "Nope, I'm going to sit this one out. It's your show. I'll just sit back and complain."
For the record, I don't think I've ever heard him complain about eating anything that involved apples and brown sugar. :)
The pie came out pretty tasty, after it cooked for at least an hour and Eor took it upon himself to get involved and look up cooking temperatures - I had chosen 350F as that's what apple crisp is baked at, but apparently with a pie shell involved it takes 425F before apples start to melt. The next one shouldn't take near as long! :) I plan to finish this one up soon and make another in a few days, after the dust has cleared a little from yesterday's cooking adventure. I'll have a piece of the first one now so that it'll get gone quicker - yeah, that's my only motivation. ;) Only no ice-cream with it this early. Perhaps I'll have cheese; that's what my grandfather always used to do with pie for breakfast (or supper, or afternoon snack) - a chunk of cheese alongside. And the next one will have far less sugar in it.

*That was from some comedian's bit about the California highway shootings a few years ago. He's theory was that people were getting too cranky while they were driving because they would forget to eat. "We should have a little safety rhyme - 'I'm gonna shoot that guy - let's have some pie.'"
I just googled it... it's Jake Johannsen, according to this random person who also has this phrase permanently linked in their mind to eating pie. Not to be confused with Jake Johanson, who's a different person... however, it's amazing how much Johannsen's delivery has changed over the years, he's almost like a different person.
