vaaacaaatiooon!

I just got confirmation - I'm going to have a full seven days off in a row, starting day after tomorrow! :) :) I had traded days off with V. (coworker) so she could go to her girlfriend's father's wedding, and the way it worked out I would have had two days off, then worked two days, then had two more days off, then worked eight days. So, for the price of requesting three days off I've got a full week. And then I have to work seven days, but my manager thinks she can get me some more black socks so I won't have to do laundry. ;)

We probably won't go anywhere, but if Eor can get a couple of days off we might decide to go to the mountains. Maybe I'll even get some writing done, though I'm not at all sure what the heck I should work on first.

I haven't mentioned that Eor made a really good apple crisp the other night. I can't tell the difference between using rice powder and wheat flour for this. I'm particularly aware of how good it is at the moment as I just ate the last bite and I asked him if we could make more. (Although I've got to admit to a sweet tooth for baked goods - the brownies [livejournal.com profile] littleredhead made were similarly missed upon finishing the last one, and I must have eaten them for nearly two weeks.)

I'll be so glad to not be at work for a week. I cannot believe how stupid that place is, some days. Today I had something on the x-ray that looked kind of bad, and the Supervisor on duty (GoldyBoy) took it out and started to open it up.

I said "You ARE going to test the outside of that before you open it, right? RIGHT?"

GoldyBoy: "No, we're not allowed to do that anymore."

Me: "I can go to the water fountain now, please?"

GoldyBoy: "Well, what would we do if it hit?"

Me: "Get an expert in here?"

GoldyBoy: "We're supposed to go right in, now."

Me: "I think that's ridiculous and apalling! Just so you know."

(Yes this conversation has been slightly edited, but I only removed two words which I was afraid would draw undue attention to my LJ, otherwise it's verbatim. Actually I'm glad that I have Supervisors who I can speak my mind to, I just wish that my upset would go higher than them.)

And meanwhile on CNN they're bitching about the fact that we have 'non-citizens' check the No-Fly and Watch List. The poor Muslim kids who check IDs outside our checkpoint (yes they are all young) already take enough crap from obnoxious racist assholes without CNN adding more fuel to that fire. They don't check the Watch List but you know stupid-ass passengers are going to think they do because those poor kids have to take them in hand and usher them to additional screening. (In fact the marking is done by the computer which prints out the ticket and nobody human ever knows why.) Let me just say I think there are more important issues in this organization.
