we have a mailbox key!

Our new apartment has a key for the mailbox.:) This makes me happy. Silly, though, because I know that if anyone really wants to get into the mailbox they'll find a way around the lock, and if it's really important it's probably in a box too large to put in the mailbox, but somehow the lock makes me feel better. The place we're at now has unlocked mailboxes in the entry and it's not that great a neighborhood. Not dangerous, but not, y'know, great. Last year the woman who was living downstairs tripped over a drunk on her way in.

Two weeks ago I had to knock a drunk out of the way in order to open the door to leave. I would have felt bad when I realized it was human legs I was banging the door against, but the smell was sooooo bad the urge to be away was canceling out all other feeling.
