work gets in the way of my lifestyle

My poor sweetie - he was all settling down to a long day of being sick, having worn himself out putting away clean laundry while I was doing the grocery shopping this morning, and then someone called and asked him to come it to work because they're having some kind of problem. This was supposed to be a holiday for him. AND he's sick.

Because we didn't do any major cooking this weekend I was wandering around trying to find things to take with me for lunch... and then I finally remembered that I bought a couple of cans of Dinty Moore beef stew last week because I realized they are now marked gluten free. And there was much rejoicing! :)

Off to work, now. I think my coat just got done in the dryer! Warm coat! Not that I need it, it's so warm outside I've been out with just my hoodie this morning already.

So jealous. It's bloody cold here in Chicago.

Bugs from Africa probably won't survive in Chicago!

Are you guys able to take sick leave when you have a doctor's certificate?

Either way, *hugs*... being sick isn't fun!

We have sick leave and can take two (in my case) or three (in Eor's case) days off before needing a doctor's note, but the employers frown upon it and make you out to be 'not a team player.' It's a damned good thing they don't look into it every time someone calls out sick, because where I work they make it awfully hard to not call out sick, sometimes. If you're five minutes late it can be worse than calling out sick. If you live 40 miles away (with no public transit - there's none in this state except within maybe 6 miles of the airport) and a tree is blocking your driveway so you have NO way to get to work you can't call in "I can't get to work" you have to call in "sick." They tell us they want us to be honest but then they insist that we lie.

Ugh... that's ridiculous. Where's the teamwork in turning up to work ill and infecting others? >:(

It's their way of fighting the fact that they know some people will abuse it. And sometimes where I work people do, of course, because it's so hard to get time off short notice any other way. Sometimes, depending who you are I guess, you can put time in weeks in advance and they'll wait until a few days before to even tell you and then deny it, and then if you call in sick you had better have a doctor's note, and it had better even say exactly what was wrong with you, and they'll still probably write you up.
