Sneakers! Master and Commander! More ice-cream cake!
I almost bought these shoes, like, I was touching them with the tips of my fingers, and then I saw the ones which are almost identical but have white where the red is on these ones. Guess what I bought!? :D I can't find a pic of the ones with white. In fact, I should probably go back and get the ones with red, because they are really cute and SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE. Because they're phasing them out, more's the pity. Which means when these ones wear out I won't be able to find replacements.
(ETA: actually, this is my shoe, only change the pink stripe to black in your mind.)
I now have a library card! And have #6 of the Aubreyad, "Fortune of War" in my sweaty little hand! Althought I'm never going to be able to catch up with
mandc_read - they are on #12, "Letter of Marque." I guess I should just ignore them. Or read the old comments on FoW.
My brother came home at noon and made pasta for me. :) And we ate more ice-cream cake, which is still yummy. ;)
Oddly, Eor had also come home only a few minutes before Hawk walked in (and moments after I got home from buying the sneaks) - he's feeling sickly, poor thing. :( So of course I can't convince him to go out and do anything fun.
Tomorrow morning I'll be going up to fetch Dad down for a visit, and I'm debating about asking him if he wants to give me that canoe back. He has no interest in fixing the hole which got bashed in it by a falling limb last, who knows how long ago, and won't even talk Hawk through doing it. I don't want to pay for a storage area, but I can't see the thing just rot away in the woods when we could use it. We have paddles, thanks to Hawk - he gave me one for my birthday about 10 years ago and it's been just kind of hanging around, never having even gotten wet, and then he found two more by the side of the road with "Free, please take" on them.

I'd love a canoe, or a kayak whatever the difference is. It's a lovely way to travel, and birdwatch, and a great arm workout.

I'd love either - in fact the canoe at my Dad's was mine, I just thought he would use it, but as he's not going to... anyway - but a couple of kayaks would be easier to store and Eor and I wouldn't have to paddle together. ;) Actually we're fine at it, but we delight in needling each other - last time he was in the back and I said "Slow down, you can't pass me you know," and he said "Want to bet?" and in a moment we were going backward, and his friend Doc (who was in a kayak) was like "I shouldn't have let them in the same boat together." :D
Canoes basically are wider and taller. There's a lot of variety in kayaks, but traditionally they had closed tops. Hawk got me to look up these river kayaks on YouTube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLkKob1ilaI)
