I don't know why I didn't post saying we were back when we actually arrived, yesterday afternoon. Maybe I just didn't want to admit my birthday weekend was over. And today, it's my birthday.

I had a great time camping. Lovely, quiet, campground, Lafayette, on a steep hillside with the Pemigewassett River (not much more than a brook at that point) running along the bottom edge of the campground. It was raining Thursday evening when we got there, and continued on and off until Saturday morning. I finished reading "The Graveyard Game." (So, book When it broke we went for a walk - 2 miles down the Pemi River there's a whirlpool called The Basin which is cool. We also took lots of pictures of moss and mushrooms. :) Saturday afternoon we had sausages burned to splitting over the fire, because we'd become convinced of how goshawful tasty that is after cooking them with [livejournal.com profile] littleredhead and [livejournal.com profile] groundctrl over their brush fire last weekend, and it sprinkled on us a little, but there's not much that can distract me from good food after a good walk.

Sunday we broke camp early and went to Lincoln, where we had breakfast at Flapjack's, which I highly recommend. And then we meandered home by way of North Conway, where we stopped at the L.L. Bean factory store and got loot: the biggest items were a new wool blanket and a small end table with interchangeable tops to play chess, backgammon, Monopoly and Scrabble. We passed up an antique white coverlet for the bed, which I will probably regret.

And I have a package from my Mom! Birthday presents, which I've opened but not dug into as yet. Must go to work, now. :P

I slept so badly last night. Possibly because I had slept about 10 hours each night while at camp, but it seemed like more than just a lack of need for sleep. I had nightmares. Really yucky. And then when I'd wake up I'd start worrying about the end of the world. I was almost happy to see daylight.

Happy birthday! I don't have the money for presents, but I can send lots of love.

I don't need lots of presents, anyway - your love is plenty enough for me! *hugs!* :)

Sounds like a good way to celebrate a birthday :)

I couldn't sleep last night either. Hopefully tonight will be better for both of us!

I hope so, too, but having a big cup of coffee (because I was so tired) probably won't help. (Because it's my birthday I made it a foofoo Starbuck's drink.)

Happy (late) birthday, darling! :-D Sounds a terrific weekend.

[sigh] And you've got me all nostalgic for my meat-consuming days with sausages burned to splitting... Food of the Gods, no question.

Food of the Gods. :D (They were chicken/apple sausages - do you think possibly you could get some sort of tofu substitute that might work?)

Kind of. :-) The Quorn and Linda McCartney veggie sausages are perfectly okay, but you can't burn Quorn. (I've tried. :-P) Their skins split, but they don't burn. And vice versa for the LMcC. Ah, me. Life is tough. ;-)
