topless women in the streets and I missed it.

Darn, I forgot to go watch the topless march in Portland, today. I completely forgot to tell Eor about it, and we were out straight all day. The march was supposed to change the double standard that women are not treated equally to men when both take their shirts off. And the organizer was apparently pissed that so many men showed up to oogle, because "Society should treat us the same!" She did prove that point, but I don't get why she expected that people would react differently.

Most of the women I work with thought this idea was stupid - wasn't going to change anything and there's plenty of much more useful things that could be demonstrated about. I suggested they could march topless to raise awareness that animal shelters need donations. But I'd rather that we had some kind of march to get everyone to keep their shirts ON.

I personally feel that covering my body is one way I keep America beautiful ;)

And the same would go for a whole lot of men who take their shirts off. :)

Really can't argue with that one.

Some people in the punk scene have a massive problem with that double standard too. Usually they protest it by wearing really loose tops that don't really cover their boobs rather than going outright topless. I don't really know why it's a massive problem or a double standard. Surely the reason why topless women get ogled and men don't is because there's something to look at with girls and not with with guys. Maybe I'm being a dense eejit though.

I was at the beach in Biarritz about two years ago and feeling very brave that I was wearing a bikini for the first time in my life, and then didn't feel so brave anymore when I noticed that lots of women were going topless and it wasn't a big deal at all. I thought that was cool.
