(love the hair btw- that alone will keep you cooler!)
I love the look of the crushed velvet dress with the brown and black bodice, and for shoes, I'd just go with black sandals, that's what I always wear!
But: (this is just me; I must sew and modify everything I own) what kind of top does the black dress have? I am thinking that with the addition of some nice jacquard trim with a medieval pattern, you would not have to wear a bodice at all, and could (A) have more of a medieval look rather than ren, and (B) be much cooler with one less layer of fabric.
And yes, this means I am offering to sew the trim on for you when you get here - just say the word and I'll be at the fabric store this afternoon!
Do you think you might have a white or cream scarf with which I can try the fake that daegaer suggested to hide my V-shaped burn/white shoulders contrast?
Cream, I think, seems more apropos (appropos? *puzzles*).
I'll try your sandals, but I'll bring my short boots just in case. I have a great deal of trouble finding shoes that fit me because I've got such short, wide feet, with splayed toes - comes of not wearing shoes much when I was a kid, I guess.
Well, I was debating about my purse. I thought I could just tie my little black purse with the sequined elephant onto my belt (black silk cord) - backward, so the elephant wouldn't show. But I should sew up the zipper where it's coming unstiched and I thought maybe I should temporarily afix a flap over to hide the zipper (which I figured I'd do with safety pins). If you have ideas/time/other ways to attack the matter of a belt purse they'd be most welcome.
Also, I honestly don't know how much trouble it would be, and I don't want to put you to too much trouble, but as you're asking - I've always hated the lace trim on the sleeves of that dress. It's the only thing I don't like about it.
Normally I fake everything with tape and safety pins, but the sleeves wouldn't hang right with that much weight on them.
I'm guessing the lace trim would come off very easily with a handy little thread ripping tool I have. No problem.
I also have a little belt purse that I made for myself; I'd be happy to make one for you as well - it's pretty simple and closes with a button (not quail) - if you tell me what dimensions you'd like the purse (silver trim? Or gold?), as well as your cream scarf, I can whip those together before you get here!
Anything else? They had some really cool blue fabric at WalMart for a dollar a yard, and I was sorely tempted to start a new gown for myself, though it's unlikely that it would be finished before Friday... Hmmm...
Re the dimensions of the scarf - your guess would probably be better than mine, but I'm thinking between 32 and 40 inches long, and 6 to 8 inches wide - possibly a little wider? Some crumple effect is probably desired, but there's only so much that can be hidden under the dress. I seriously wouldn't put this as a high priority, I'm not really sure I can get it to look right.
Re the purse - big enough to hold a few credit cards? I'm thinking that's all one really wants attached to one's belt.
Hee! :) We figured out what you meant (Eor first saw it and went "Wha-at? Oh!", but it just amused me too much that a very small mistake can sometimes change the whole meaning of the sentence. :)
There is none, I'm only messing. But you never hear of young kids/teens "hanging out" at the shopping centre! Nasty little creatures usually hang around street corners and threaten to take my mobile off me!

All of us need a little support sometimes. Some of us need a lot of support all the time. :)
Or as Mr. Scot would say, "I danna think the superstructure canna take et."

(Anonymous) 2006-08-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)Unfortunately I don't have black sandals. I have some brown Birks and my green flipflops... I don't think either of them goes, really.
I can't imagine why the silly thing won't let you fill out the polls. Were you logged in when you tried?

How constrained am I by my priggish conventionality!
p.s., no I wasn't logged in; that must be the difference.
p.p.s., Eor was totally noncommittal - what would you like for dinner Friday?

(You can also borrow a pair of my black sandals if you like)

Cream it is; any preference as to dimensions? Is there anything else you'd like for your garb? (did I mention that when I can't cook, I sew?)
