As soon as I finished "HMS Surprise" I started reading "Once Upon A Time In The North" by Phillip Pullman, which I borrowed from
littleredhead and is about Lee Scoresby when he's 24, and how he met Iorek. :) So far the writing is remarkably flat and clunky - passable, but only just. Like he phoned it in. Which might be why
groundctrl's brother didn't like it until he was halfway through it, but then apparently he went back and read it a second time, so it must not be all that bad.
