God has been driven from heaven and the world is a battlefield of angels and demons.

Via [livejournal.com profile] phoenikoi: Folklore of homeless children.  And holy crap, the writer of this article paced it out well.  At the very end you learn Bloody Mary's identity, and EEP! :(  As I said to [livejournal.com profile] phoenikoi, on the one hand I'd almost like to see this used as a background for stories, but also I don't want to see it appropriated from the kids, as they created these stories because they need them to sustain themselves.

Whoa, I read the fist few paragraphs and it gave me the shivers! I must do some actual work now. Roll on home time so I can read that.

It does! I imagine a good deal of it is in the presentation, but I was so sort of spooked by it, because so much of it is... well, it's about as plausible as anything else. I really like the bit about the angels having a secret base in the Everglades, guarded by alligators.

Wow, that was a really interesting read.

Yeah... can you imagine being a little kid and being convinced that your father's spirit needs a palm leaf put on his grave so that he can join the angels to fight for good?

Yeah, I've read that before. It's amazing and disturbing and Neil Gaiman only wishes he had come up with something that compelling for American Gods.

But I don't want to see it appropriated.

Yeah, Neil Gaimen was who I thought of, too. It wouldn't surprise me if he came out with something referencing this mythology, sometime. I only hope he doesn't go too far with it.
