Our public library is open again after a long and divisive year. I don't know as I've posted a lot about this, but we had a town manager who thought the library should 'make money' for the town, and completely ignored the state report that said our library was incredibly efficient with the money it was given. Besides circulating books and doing all sorts of young child activities, it's the place the 4H met, and where people check out the keys to unlock the kayaks, etc. She also wanted to 'update the look' of our beautiful building. So, put more money into something you say isn't making money? Anyway, that town managers has finally quit. The little old ladies in the Friends of the Library group are persistant. Unfortunately, she did manage to get the librarians fired, and we'll really miss them. I don't want to put too light a touch on this, they were very much a part of the fabric of this town.

The new library director is a young guy. He's trying, though. I called to renew our cards, for me and Eor, and he insisted on walking me through logging on to the system so I can reserve a book. This is cool! We don't get to browse indoors, yet, of course, due to COVID, but we can pick up our books at the lobby. And we can get interlibrary loan, again. The e-book format didn't seem to have any facility for that, but I may send him an email and ask if it really does, now.

And then I have open a tab to an article on the Ford Foundation, Democracy is a threat to white supremacy—and that is the cause of America’s crisis, and a tab open on John Oliver's profile of Tucker Carlson (Tucker Carlson: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)).

Just to balance things out, I also recently watched Uncle Roger Roasted By Celebrity Chef (ft. Chef Wan). If you're not familiar with Uncle Roger, he's a comedy character created by Nigel Ng. He complains about his ex-wife, "Aunty Helen" (imaginary) and he berates people for cooking without peanuts ("weak!") or MSG ("the king of spices!"). (And not strictly on one of my tabs, but when I watch an Uncle Roger I often get a Hersha Patel offered up, because one of his first big hits was him picking on a cooking video she made for the BBC, after which they became friends and she started doing her own YouTube vids, so I'm going to watch her roast him about how he roasts coffee beans.)

In other comedy, Eor got me into Mann Shorts 'Dungeons & Dragons: ___ Edition'. We watch every edition as soon as it comes out. :) Yeah, these guys are NOT actually playing Dungeons and Dragons, there are plenty of people doing that. These are scripted plays in which the players and the DM torment each other. The Florida editions are the best; I think they've done six of them, based on real Florida news stories.

Oh, and the bain of my evenings - I signed up for the Carnegie Mellon University Relationships Lab COVID survey, which took about two hours to complete and THEN asks you to fill out another survey every night for 14 days. Well, I have missed five days so far, which they ask you to tack on the end, so that they'll get 14 days worth of data. Meaning, I really can't miss any more days, it just draws out the pain. :) I say! But really, doing this has brought some things into my awareness. I'm pretty happy, over all, and very lucky. I feel like a jerk saying I wish I had more time like other people seem to. But I have been writing more letters. :)

There are other tabs open, but, aside from a local news report, they're mostly tabs to other Dreamwidth accounts, my friends. ;)

Well, I'd better hang this up if I hope to bring in some wood for fire.
