This post is for anyone in the middle of writing a fic (or many fics!) and it's so we have a chance both to share illustrative snippets and to bitch about how recalcitrant our fics are being.

I only have the one fic going, so you're going to get a sneak preview of the end of Chapters Nine, which [livejournal.com profile] eor is proofreading for me right now, and beginning of Chapter Ten (of Swept Away!, for anyone new to reading my journal there's more explainations about what this is at that link, and all the previous chapters) and I would love feedback on this, because I have Phipps doing a personality flip-flop and Tom being remarkably unaware and I wonder if I'm doing romance wrong.

cut for length and spoilers )

Now the sun is driving it's spikes into my eyes, time to abandon the computer for a while. At least this prompted me to type up the beginning of Chapter Ten which I had on paper. :)

I don't know about these results. I wouldn't consider myself 'spiritual.'

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users.
Bold what you have read,
italicize those you started but couldn't finish, and
strike through what you couldn't stand.
Add an asterisk* to those you've read more than once.
Underline those on your to-read list.

Well, I may also strike those I'm pretty sure I'll never read... and italicize AND strike the ones I couldn't finish because I couldn't stand them, I guess. One variation on the above rules was to italicize the ones you were forced to read for school, which makes more sense to me, so I'm trying to do bold italics on them.

yes, here I am doing a meme when I'm sure there's other things I should be doing... )

Good lord. "The Hobbit" is on this list which is supposed to be books people keep on their shelves to make people think they're brainy? And the Trilogy isn't?

Book # 17: "Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor" by Stephanie Barron. Really fun read, actually, and I'd recommend it, even though every now and then there'd be a character who was really out of place. Ripped right from some movie or something I felt, though I wasn't sure exactly which. But the end was... I don't know. There was something that threw me off balance, although it made me laugh. Actually, I was going to put it under a cut, but I won't even do that, I think it's far too potentially spoilery and I don't want you to accidentally see it if you want to read the book. Write me if you want to know. I think you should read the book, though.

My daemon, Aenad... )

(sorry about the lack of LJ cut when I first posted.)

I've gone from moth to hare to wolf. I wonder if people have poked at it or if it'll just change sometimes, anyway.

An easy meme from [livejournal.com profile] phoenikoi.  What the heck.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 161.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"It's not only the knife that has to cut, it's your own mind."

(Yes, [livejournal.com profile] princesslaurene, it's the same book that was next to me when I did your meme. :))

Work was good - spent time with people I enjoy, in baggage screening.  Yeah.  Other than that...  *shrug*  Also, wrote more on that Ivan/Byerly fic this morning.  Am not holding my breath until the betas get back to me. :)

ETA: Sorry about that bad script. I'm wondering if I need a new client? Other people seem to post that thing with no problem.

my answers on the accent quiz )

When I got up this morning it was light enough in the kitchen that I didn't turn the light on - I think the sun was not up, yet.  It's progressively gotten darker without me noticing because I was looking at the computer and now I want the light on.  I should probably go get my car (two blocks away because of street cleaning last night) before the rain comes lashing down.

*walk walk walk drive drive*  OK, car now home.  Tea?  Mm, tea.

*typetty-type*  Hey, I got half my Ivan/Byerly story typed up!  This is the damned thing that kept me up all night, thinking.  And I think it's not great, but neither is it totally horrible, and at least I'm getting it out of my system.  Sent that half off to my betas (thank god for volunteers).  Now must get ready for work.

I'm a sekrit midnight writer.  A closet writer, Eor says.  Though it was actually a water closet I wrote it in.

So, I was cleaning out my email and I found a link to my Mind Map, and I want to throw out the email so I'm sticking the link here.  I have no idea what these things are supposed to show - it doesn't bear much relationship to how much I feel toward people.

I'm supposed to tag six people, but I don't like to obligate people.  If you feel like doing it, I'd like to hear six things from any of you.  Right now I have to go to bed. :)

Via [livejournal.com profile] princesslaurene...
not surprisingly, I, also, am neither male nor female. )
In fact, I score the exact same amount "Either" and "Neither." How odd.

Why do I strongly suspect that almost nobody really thinks in a traditional male or female mode?

There's at least 1 person on your LiveJournal that wants to date you, play with you or sleep with you. [Yeah, right - I'll suspend my disbelief in gaffer's tape for this one. -Derien]  So lets play........ FRIENDS w/BENEFITS

The rules are simple...

If you want to date the person who posts this send them a msg saying "I want to date you"

[This is a very weirdly written meme.  I'd have written "If you want to date me, comment with 'I want to date you.'" -Derien]

If you want to play with the person who posts this send them a msg saying "I want to play with you" and say if you want to be top or bottom and what activities you want to do.

[And BTW, just because you want something doesn't mean you're going to get it. ;) --Derien]

If you just want to sleep with the person and stay friends, send them a message that says "Let's have sex some time, OK?"

[and I'll keep what [livejournal.com profile] beowabbit added: "If you want to literally sleep with me, snuggly but platonic, feel free to let me know that, too, even though it’s not in keeping with the lascivious theme of the meme."]

SCARED??? You ONLY live ONCE!

I borrowed this test from [livejournal.com profile] princesslaurene (I'll put it back when I'm done, I promise!).

I'm actually weirded out by this result.  I don't think of myself as particularly feminine.  I'm not girly at all, and when I used to chat on IRC people always thought I was a guy.  (Of course, back in the day, guessing that someone who you had no data on was really a guy was 80% likely to be correct.)  According to this I'm not only extremely feminine, I'm far MORE feminine than most other women my age!  Of course that does mean most other women my age who have taken the test so far. There may only be two of them.

Excuse me, I suppose I should go now go to put on makeup and float around the house singing "I Enjoy Being A Girl."

Not.

Oh, the other thing I thought was amusing was the picture.  Look at the stove she's cooking on.  Who drew that?  Someone who'd never seen a range?
