I can't say why I seem to be taking such long breaks with Dreamwidth. I've been trying to take long breaks with Facebook, and maybe there's, like, bleedover to other social networking sites? Eor posts, I don't know why I don't remember to do so.

Since the last time I posted I have gone on vacation, and been back now two weeks. I know, I know, going on vacation in Arizona in a pandemic when I know people in AZ are absolute nuts? Yup, that's how I roll, living on the edge, big rule-breaker. No, here's how it played out -

We had originally scheduled this trip for the second week of April in 2020, but then COVID happened and the airline gave us a credit balance when I asked so we could do it some other time "within a year." I figured that meant a year from the original date.

My brother, Hawk, you may recall, is a physician's assistant, so being in medical he got vaccinated early. His wife is a teacher in Seattle, so got vaccinated fairly early. My Aunt S, who lives in Maine now, is 70, and Maine did well with vaccinations, so she managed to get hers in just in time to get in on the trip. The Maine Guv'na, Janet Mills, also declared my job to be an essential one, and thus I was vaccinated in time for the trip.

The only person who'd originally been booked to travel but could not was Eor, because being neither essential nor old he had to wait a bit longer for his shot. He got his first shot before the trip, but the second dose was scheduled for the Friday OF the vacation. I suggested he reschedule it and get it when he came back, and travel on the 80% immunity supposedly invoked with the first shot, but he declined on the grounds that 80% still means a 1-in-5 chance of getting sick. BUT, it turns out his flight ticket is not forfeit until the end of December, which is much better than I thought, and he can use it to go someplace else, he doesn't have to go to Arizona. He may be able to go visit his sister in Florida for Christmas.

The only adult person involved in this whole scheme who was not vaccinated was the one who wasn't traveling, my youngest brother, Eightball. So we potentially put him in danger, but we continued to wear masks in stores and eat mostly in well-ventilated and sparsely seated restaurants, and he followed suit. (He probably doesn't believe in the virus, but we didn't get into anything which might cause familial strife.)

Eightball planned lots of great little trips for us, and chose hikes that were at the perfect level to suit a 70yo woman with asthma (Aunt S.), and was very gallant and attentive to her needs. The only thing she chickened out on was horseback riding, which was not Eightball's choice but the absolutely impossible to not do choice of the 6yo niece, Miss Longshanks, who is mad for horses. And her mom, Minx, who used to be a dressage rider. (I don't know how I didn't know that about her before now.)

But let me tell you, Dead Horse Ranch Arizona State Park, has a really good concession which runs the horseback riding.

I need to say more about this - all of this. But for now I need to get ready for work.
