The other day I went over to the Red Wing store before work and committed to buying a pair of Iron Rangers in black, knowing they'll probably need to be oiled and stretched a bit, and not even asking the price. They have a little style and class, and free small maintenance for life, just take them back to that store. (They can't do soles, but I know another place that will do that. And the soles CAN be done on these; cheaper shoes, that's not always the case.)
To balance my karma, yesterday I went to Walmart and bought a pair of $12 sneakers. Yes, this is balancing my karma to the negative, because I'm sure these must have been made by kids in some impoverished country to be sold at that price. They're ridiculously light and feel like I can put them right on without any break-in period, but I'm going to try them out on the treadmill. And hope they don't fall apart like tissue paper. The advantage - they are here, now, not coming sometime, so I can get them right into the rotation.
Shopping at Walmart, though... to begin with I feel immoral just walking in, and then the shelves are very poorly maintained. Basically, it will save you time to assume that everything is in the wrong place, you're just going to have to look at each item and see what size it really is.
Before today I had three pairs of shoes I rotated through for work, and they're all wearing out. I do also have a pair of ugly boots, soon to come out of summer storage, bought through the work website. They hypothetically provide us shoes, but recently phased out the sneakers which fit me. I have hard to fit feet - wide toes, like 4E, but narrow heels.
I still feel I could use one or two more pairs; there needs to be a few to rotate to keep my feet comfortable. They have to dry and air out for a couple of days before wearing again. I'm thinking the next pair will be Keens. A sort of mid-ground between boots I don't even want to think about the price of and sneakers I don't need to think about the price of. And I may look around for another pair of Nurse Mates, if they still exist. Inexpensive (not $12 cheap) and with little support, but I kind of like them. They make me think of Vimes boots - I can feel the ground through them.

I mean I get it, but like many things- shopping at Walmart maybe just
a little more nuanced. Here they pay better than a lot of other stores...
I mean their prices and product selection varies, you can get better shoes by
ordering online and do in store pickup. I'm not being an ally per se...
some older folks or carless folks have fewer shopping options.......
And seriously, folks who never cross Walmart's door think nothing
of ordering from Amazon.......one of very few things I agreed
with A O C.

Ps ...
Keen's are very nice but many of their shoes boots cannot be resoled.
I know because I have a beloved pair boots with worn out bottoms

parts of the country .....most of New England actively hates Walmart...
the stores are Not especially nice.
Walmart superstores are nicer and maintained ......yes they still sell low
priced junk .but if you can find deals.... I am currently wearing button down shirt
(from India -think nice cloth and workmanship) 2.99 on close out.
Part of the issue with shopping in much New England is sales tax as well as inventory tax..
JC Penny here has killer sales which you would never see back East.
The only exception I can think are the outlet stores in N H
