Returned! Not eaten by wampas.

I saw a LOT of amazing costumes, and other stuff. (NewEgg had a giant robot come wandering through, and it seemed to be pursued by people in fur vests with blasters, though they might have been playing a different game on the same trajectory.) I hung out for a short while in the Pride Lounge, and overlistened on a conversation between a guy who was there for a panel and a trans woman who had been denied the medical things they needed by Trump's proclamation. I saw the Muppet Mayhem presentation, which was a big in person ad for the show about the band from the Muppet Show, Electric Mayhem. And I do want to see the show, sounds fun. And the challenges of working with muppets was really interesting to hear about. Someone wrote in a gag where Dr. Teeth soaks in a hot tub, and they actually had to have the puppeteer in a wet suit under the water! :)

Anyway, the place was absolutely over-mobbed to insane levels, so the only way you could sit was attend a panel. To see the vendors wares you had to be in someone else's way, and for the most part it was easier to let the flow of the crowd carry you on, so I spent hours and hours wandering in the crush just looking at stuff as I went by. By myself, because my friend and her sister were waiting for literally the entire day in the lines for pics and autographs. Whoever sold the places in line WAY overbooked the actors, and then they had to be on panels or move to another spot for pics, so they would tell the people in line to come join another line, later. So we got lunch together (sitting on the floor in a lobby) and then they had to go back and stand in line again. The one panel I really wanted to see was Race and Gender in Comics, at 4:30 to 5:30, and the proceedings actually were supposed to be wrapping up at 5pm, so when my friend texted to say they were ready to go, I left that room. I felt bad about that because they had a half full room to begin with. I really thought it was the most important panel of the con, and I wish it had been scheduled earlier.

Also, the Javitz Center maps and signage were horrible, so I was amazed I stumbled upon the right room. I should have used my compass (but it actually doesn't work all that well). As I was wandering I found the Cosplay Center by accident, but then couldn't find it again after I left the Race and Gender discussion, and the employee I asked had no idea what I meant by "an atrium with a dining area, and then I went up from there". I was hoping to pop back up there and take a picture with their backdrops, before leaving, but my pic had to be taken outside. It was a quieter area, far fewer people even though they were doing a costume contest.

I just wore the same outfit I wore to the wedding a few years ago, and felt pretty nervous about that beforehand, because I was afraid people would judge me for not playing some specific character, but there were a fair number of people doing Steampunk, and I got a couple of compliments and I think one person tried to take a pic of me. I instinctively did that thing of stepping quickly to the side when I saw the phone up - because I always think they're trying to catch something behind me, and I honestly forgot for that second that I was in costume - so I probably won't appear in any stranger's feed. I'm like Sasquatch that way.

PS - The above link will take you to a pic of me in my outfit. Actually, not identical to the outfit I wore to Wolfie's wedding - I like these new trousers better.

And we were planning to stay in the city last night, but my friend decided she wanted to drive halfway back (to her Mom's place in Massachusetts) that night and make the trip to Maine after having a good night's rest, and I think it was a good plan. So we had dinner at an amazing taco truck in Waterbury, CT - "Los Garcia Mexican Fusion". 4.5 stars on Yelp. Go there if you have a chance.
