I did try putting curry spices in plain kefir, and it wasn't bad, honestly. :) Now I have broken my fast with two tablespoons of compote - difficult to avoid having some when I'm making it - which I hope is also going to be reasonably kind. The apples needed to be cooked, and tonight we go to EB's house for crepes, and will bring along my compote as well as a jar of spirited blueberries we put up in 2015. EG is bringing maple butter. Eor thinks I should eat something more solid before the crepes, but I don't know. Crepes seem pretty low difficulty. Mainly before I go I want to do completely different things, like take a bath, and get to the transfer station with our recycling and food waste for the compost.

So, what else has been going on? Last weekend we visited friends, LittleRedHead and GrndCtrl, and their 8yo daughter. Child didn't remember us at all because it's been so long since we visited, but that didn't slow her down from playing host, she has learned well from Mom. LittleRedHead asks what we'd like to drink and lists off some choices, and Child adds, "and plenty of alcohol!" and says "Sit, I'll go!" She happily amused herself playing with slime while listening to the adult conversation and inserting a question every now and then. For a short while LittleRedHead and I went and did a beading thing with Child, but it wasn't necessary to be cut off from the adult conversation in order to interact with her.

I think it was the weekend before, though it may have been two weekends before, we went up to Rockland to visit with the Aunts and Aunt BJ's kids and grandkids. Aunt BJ's son turned up with a very cool leather suitcase, covered in mold, which he plunked down and said was full of my father's stuff. We opened it and checked out the photographs of my father's high school friends which were in the top, but didn't dare dig at all for fear of releasing too much mold in Aunt BJ's house, which had already been flooded downstairs only a couple of weeks before.

Now that suitcase is residing in the back of my car until I can clean it. I might work on it right there, today.

Oh, and since 2023 started I have read (and in several cases, re-read) all the Temeraire series by Noami Novik, and the first two Discworld books. I should probably start doing reading posts again. Am now reading one of the later Swallows and Amazons books, "Great Northern." Very very chill after the action adventure of the other stuff. :)

ETA: I did, in fact, wipe the mold off the suitcase and wipe it down with vinegar and water, inside and out. All the stuff that was in it is now in some boxes which had been in my car with the intention of going to recycling, and the suitcase came into the house to dry. AND I discovered that in fact it has my uncle's name inside, though I still think all the stuff is my father's, because it's the usual collection of cultch one finds in any box either of my parents or I tossed things - photographs, flashcards, class notes, small plastic charms and doojiggers, unused 3x5 cards, cufflinks and a floating compass of the type you use to find yourself; the sign of people who feel lost.
