It's finally occurred to our thick heads, after I went around telling everyone New Orleans was totally IT, that we could move back to Portland. Now, Portland Maine is actually a really nice place to live. In a lot of ways we both like it better than Boston. Imagine, if you can, a mini-Boston, with everything downtown in walking distance - nice shops, restaurants and bars all located so you don't have to get in a car at all. And, if you want to get out of town, an hour's drive takes you to the White Mountains for hiking, camping, rock-climbing, etc. Now, it's kind of like, what's not to like, here? There's not as much night life as Boston, and not near as much as New Orleans, definetly, but there's way more than there is where we're currently living in New Hampshire. My favorite ska band even comes to Portland occationally. Cost of living is a little higher than NO, but so is the employment rate. The scales are creaking.
