I don't really have time to read this right now, so posting it here is my way of saying I think it'll be good to look at, later. After I force myself to write a little on my slash-the-slashers story. Gotta do that.

But before I move on, a quick factoid, from the House of Commons debate, yesterday. (And no, I wasn't home to listen to it, Eor passed this on to me.) Take the country with the second largest military in the world, and combine those people with that of the 3rd largest, and that of the 4th largest, and so on to the 27th largest... combine all 27 countries armed forces together and that army would still be smaller than the U.S. armed forces.

That got me on a couple of levels. First, it's just mind-boggling. And second, why do we do that? I was able to think of a couple of answers pretty quickly. For one, going into the military is just what people (mostly guys, but lots of women, too) do if they just can't think of what else to do. In the U.K. they have the dole, here we have the Army. Now, it gets the young folks in shape as well as teaching them some skills, but still!

Another thing Eor picked up from the House of Commons debate which I hadn't realized before: The U.S. built several new bases in the Iraq arena in the past few months. That's so easy to say, it doesn't give any idea of the sort of money and manpower put in on such a project. _Several_ new bases in a few months. So all this dicking around about getting Saddam to destroy missiles was really just a smokescreen to give a little more time for mobilizing the forces and getting stuff in place for the attack, there was never any intention of trying to find another resolution.

*sigh* Sorry, this whole war thing has got me really down. I wake up in the morning wondering how I can find any personal happiness when thousands of people are going to be murdered. I do my job because I believe in keeping people safe.

I wish for peace.
