I hadn't actually gotten my connectivity problem worked out, but now I think I have. The thing that seemed to do it - moving my nic card to a different slot.
I think I'm feeling a tiny bit better... maybe because of talking with family on the phone on Christmas.:)
My Mom, Sillama , called on Christmas Eve. She had some bad news - the school which she was working for (in Korea) changed hands, and the new owners have decided to lay her off because she was the most expensive teacher. (Given that she was getting paid for 33 hours but working more like 48 that seems odd, so me.) However, she seems to be handling things okay, and is going to parties and trying to network to find another position.
On Christmas day, in the evening, I called my Dad, and chatted in that rambling way we have. He can never remember what Eor and I are doing for work, which I find amusing.:)
From Dad I got my brother's phone number, and called Motiv8n next. I was planning to call my other brother, Jimbalaya, later, but turned out they were together.:) Actually, it turned out the phone number was a cell phone, and they were at a party, so it was a little difficult to hear, but they passed the phone back and forth and we had a nice conversation about Lord of the Rings and what we got for Christmas and what we'd given other people.
I hadn't heard from Jimbalaya for a couple of weeks, and turned out this was because he'd gone on a trip to Eastern Europe. "You'll like what I got you!" he said, "Hand made in Slovakia!" And then, with his usual sweetness, "But I'm sure it's not nearly as cool as what [Motiv8n] got you.:)" Which was Lord of the Rings action figures - Arwen and her horse.:) Motiv8n assures me Arwen is a hot ticket - I have yet to see the movie.:)
It's cool that they live close enough together right now that they can hang out a bit, before Jimba moves to Korea to join his wife and our Mom.
Well, this morning I averaged out my calories burned on the treadmill over the past few weeks I've been using it, and found that I've done about half of what my goal was. Damn. Guess I'd better go get walking right now. I haven't lost any weight, in fact I think I may have gained a pound. Eor keeps reminding me that weight is not important, it's whether I'm getting more fit which matters, but of course I would like to show something. At least perhaps I've balanced out all that cake we've been getting at work, and the lack of outdoor activity due to the weather.
