I called in sick. We already had an apointment to see apartments this morning, so I went with [livejournal.com profile] eor to do that. It was a trip down memory lane. I had lived in one of the buildings before, in an apartment which was almost the mirror image of the one we saw today. So much smaller than I remember. Memory must make things larger. That was right after my first year of college, so summer of '86. Wow, I feel so old. In the second of the three places we saw [livejournal.com profile] eor and I lived in the exact identical apartment only one floor down, probably in about '93. And we were reminded of why we didn't like that place - dark as a cave.

The third place was saw was interestingly open-concept and very light. But of course with open concept there's no privacy. And guests would have to sleep on the couch, as well as cut through our bedroom all the time in order to get to the bathroom. No more tossing my clothes on the floor. But it would save us $270 every month, and it's a nice neighborhood and there's no upstairs neighbors.

That pretty much exhausted me for the day. After that I just read some of Tex and Molly In The Afterlife (which is mainly cool because the author seems to have been all the places I was growing up and met many of the same people) and finished reading One Big Happy Pantheon, and I know I read some other things but I can't remember right now, drank juice, dozed a little. Someone I haven't talked to much in years called and we discussed her tactics in a custody battle over a child she had after I'd pretty much lost touch with her. I wrote a note to put in the box I'm sending to [livejournal.com profile] daegaer and taped it up. Wrote a note to put in the box I'm sending to my brother, Hawk. Now if I can just get to the post office tomorrow.

Also phoned our landlady and asked if she was planning on raising the rent when our lease is up. Of course she responded by trying to get me to tell her what we were planning. Nope. We haven't made up our minds yet, not gonna go there.
