I started out to make scalloped potatoes this evening. I like the result, but it's not exactly scalloped potatoes, not really. See, I kind of forgot that I was supposed to be making white sauce and made cheese sauce instead. Yeah, don't ask me how I forgot what I was doing to that extent. I'm just very distractable. But my tastebuds like it.:) Maybe that's what's known as au gratin potatoes?
Today we made the trek to NH to put geraniums on his grandparent's grave (a Memorial Day weekend tradition, but we're going to be in Ohio next weekend) and stopped by the house we used to have (the one we were working on when I started this journal) to visit the people we sold it to. Well, to see what they've done with it, of course. They are such nice people. We had only intended to stop and say hi, and since we hadn't even had the good grace to phone ahead we really were only going to stay a minute. And they had breakfast in progress, the guy works overnights,
and they were getting ready to go pick up their baby from the hospital (premature, coming home today) and they spent like an hour showing us around the house and filling us in on everything going on in the town. Props to them, they managed to get rid of the horrible neighbor who's dogs were shitting on the yard. She really detracted from our country living experience.
This weekend I have not gotten near as much done as I'd hoped to, but I do feel one tiny bit of pride - I managed to surprise
eor with part of his birthday present.:) I got him the MP3 player which he specified, but also found some movies; "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," and "Weird Science." He often references these movies, I get the impression he likes them. Also "Time Bandits," because I really loved that movie and he's never seen it.
And now a little drink (tequila in Kool-aid, tonight, for a change) and something nice to read for a
short while (maybe I'll try to find the beginning of the series where Kirk, Spock and Christine Chapel get married), and then off to bed.
Memo to myself: Make barbeque chicken and rice when I get up tomorrow morning, so
eor can have a good big meal before bed, and plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow night. (He has a cholesteral test tomorrow night, so can't eat when he wakes up.)
