I just got into my pencil box (a present from a co-worker from when I worked at the medical office) to get my sharpener and put in a new emery board (mostly used for resurfacing erasers that have gone hard), and I thought, "I really should clean this out, it's getting cluttered."  But, looking through, I can't see much that I really want to get rid of.  There's the standard stuff - pens, highlighters, ruler, rubber finger, liquid paper, stapler, post-it notes, band-aids, painkillers, safety pins, a couple of mints, hand sanitizer and cream, lip balm.  Then there's a few oddities:  A hair clip, in case my hair needs to be tied up (it's happened more often than I like to remember).  Fifteen cents (in case I'm down to my last fifteen cents, I guess).  A necklace my mother made me... in case I'm in dire need of adornment?  The Tiny Book of TSA Haiku (I only wrote four of them, so they're precious).  One item I can't quite remember what it was used for, though: A loop of string from which suspends a picture hanger, or vice-versa.  I coiled it up again, reasoning that you never know when a bit of string might come in handy, and left the picture hanger on it 'just in case.'

The only thing I decided I could take out was the business card of a co-worker who doubles as a real-estate agent.  (This would be the same person who gave me the gloves which I lost one of, Afa Twoshoes.)

All in all I think my pencil case is probably the best organized part of my desk.
