I was looking for examples of mantle steeple clocks trying to find one similar to the one I have which belonged to my grandparents, kind of like this one only way more beat up and sad, and I came across this black, pillared clock which looks just like the one my other grandmother had stolen from her house when I was a kid (the one time she was ever alone overnight in her life). I found myself staring at that clock wondering how it could go for such a low price. If it's really just like hers it has an amazingly sonorous chime on the hour, and a short chime for quarter past and quarter of... I think there was even a different short chime for half past. That clock was the bane of my existence when I was trying to sleep on the couch at my grandmother's house when I was sick. (I could have slept in a bedroom upstairs, but I was afraid of spaces which I didn't really know well. I was not allowed to pull everything out of the closets and investigate them on a regular basis, so I didn't want to sleep next to them. And the attic trapdoor could let goblins down onto me in the middle of the night, I wasn't sure. I'm still like that. Do you suppose I should seek therapy?)
Wait... have I done this post before?
