Yay, it's 6:13AM and all the snowblower men are out yodeling with delight. They live in the row houses next door and are all related to each other, so it's no wonder they're all the same sort of inconsiderate fools who blow their snow back into the road. Which was just plowed. And the city doesn't give a crap about keeping this road clear so it won't be plowed again until after the next storm.

Retrieval of the car from the parking garage was a lengthy process this morning because they've gotten rid of their human attendants, replaced by a card system that involves two machines and possibly wouldn't be near as complex once you knew how to do it, but the first time was a big pain in the ass for Eor. (More people out of work.) He's taking the car to Freeport because he doesn't want to drive the van with the chains on up Rout 1 (the highway is right out), so I was waiting outside in the van and after a while had to turn it off because I was almost out of gas, and went in looking for him, because it was taking so long.

It is great fun to be able to bull the van through snowbanks at low speeds like a bulldozer. I hope the roads don't clear enough today so that I feel I have to take the chains off.

I've found that I also can bull myself right through most banks like a 'dozer with these new Gortex rainpants Eor got me. Wool sock (with cotton socks under them so I won't itch), hiking boots, leggings, jeans, the Gortex pants, a long-sleeved undershirt, flannel shirt, sweater, my fleece-and-weathershell coat, a thick hat with my hood pulled up over it, and of course mittens (glittens, really) was my outfit for sledding, yesterday, and it worked out perfectly. I was sweating, slightly, when we decided to quit, and the only part of me which was cold at all was my face when the wind hit it, because it was soaked with the snow still coming down. I put on almost the same outfit this morning to fetch the car, but left off the rain pants, and felt silly later because it was impressed upon me how very helpful they are.

Okay, I've been up since 4:45, and had a teeny bit of exercise and a lot of cold, so I think I deserve eggs and toast and tea. :) And some of this new jam that Eor's coworker gave him for Christmas, which her mother made.
