...on our local wicked oldies station (WYAR) when I was driving to work the other day -

“Farming”

Farming, that’s the fashion,
Farming, that’s the passion
Of our great celebrities of today.
Don’t inquire of Georgie Raft
Why his cow has never calved
Georgie’s bull is beautiful, but he’s gay!

Good thing I wasn't drinking my tea at that moment, I might have spit it. :)
(Hm, no cross-posting happening, apparently. This went up in a somewhat different form on Dreamwidth.)

Heard this song on WYAR (the wicked oldies station in) the other day on
my way to work.

"Farming" (Cole Porter)

Farming, that's the fashion,
Farming, that's the passion
Of our great celebrities of today.
Don't inquire of Georgie Raft
Why his cow has never calved
Georgie's bull is beautiful, but he's gay!

He uses the word 'gay' in both senses in this song, so it's obvious that when
people say "It wasn't used like THAT back then!" they're not entirely correct.

And then there was another song - the one with the lyric "Ain't no sweet man
worth the salt of my tears" - obviously sung by a guy with an all-male chorus
behind, and I was like, "Sweet... is this gay morning on YAR?"

Anyhow, I know, I'm totally easily amused. :)
