Well, (my not-really-boss) the Ogre's last day is today, but this is my day off, so when I go back again he's gone forevermore. It's sad, it's the end of an era, because he's been there since the beginning. And ever since the beginning people have asked what he actually did. Lately they asked me what he actually did, because Moose and I have the obvious faces of the department to the majority of people we know - we interface with the workers when they are students. And it's true we'd picked up a lot of the slack of things the Ogre should probably have been doing which he'd never been good at, the computer stuff. Only recently I've realized that upper management kind of thought he was doing a lot of the stuff we were doing, probably because his position is the interface with upper management. At first I was incensed that they thought HE produced the monthly report, but then I sat back and recalled that in fact he could put together the report, he would just do it differently than I would. And of course I think my way is superior, so I tried to avoid letting him do it. :) But it still came 'from' him, because it came through his email, because he was our interface to management.

cut for the boring - ramble about the stressors of being too close to the worker/management line )

Yes, I still haven't showered, eaten breakfast, etc. No caffeine, no inhibitions, so I started back in on learning this song. Transcribing lyrics helps.

He Hadn't Up Till Yesterday
(sung by Sophie Tucker, 1928)

There's a boy I'm crazy about
And I know he's wild about me
At the love stuff he's not a real sheik man
Cuz I'm the roaring lion, he's the poor weak lamb
Has he squeezed me? No.
Has he pleased me? No.
Has he told me tales of France?
Has he ever kissed me unawares
and whispered, "Honey, take a chance?"

Well, he hadn't. Up till yesterday.
But I guess he will tonight.
I've been on the wrong track long enough,
I'm going to start and do things right.
And when I get my arms around him,
And I hug with all my might,
And if he's never called for his mother,
Then I guess he will tonight

And he hadn't, up till yesterday,
But I guess he will tonight.
I'm going to show him in the parlour
Why a girl turns out the light.
I won't waste any time on talking,
I'll start right in on sight.
And if he's never forgotten his Bible, (heh)
You can bet he will tonight.

Now I'm determined to make him give in.
I'm just crazy to have him begin.
He's not a sheik now, but when I get through,
Ronald Coleman will never do the things he'll do.
Shall I make him? Yes.
Shall I take him? Yes.
Shall I burn him up with bliss?
But up to now, I must confess,
He's never even tried a kiss

Well, he hadn't. Up till yesterday.
But I guess he will tonight.
That son of a gun's going to start right in
Getting next to things alright.
Say, for his love I'm so hungry
That his cheeks I'll start a-bite
And if he's never had his moments, (Whoah ho)
Well I guess he will tonight.

And he hadn't up till yesterday,
But I guess he will right soon.
He may be the slowest man under the sun,
But wait til I get him under the moon.
He's got to love his big fat mama,
He'll get no chance to fight.
And my name isn't Sophie Tucker
If that guy don't fall tonight.

Oh, I should wish Liederlady221b a happy birthday and welcome her back, as I've just started seeing posts from her again! :)
You gotta love a survey that asks you to rate your level of religiosity. Do you? No. I just thought the word was fun. It would have made more sense it they'd asked after 'church-goingness' or something, and then 'spirituality' separately. To me. Because it asked you to rate your family in general, and there's incredibly variable amounts of church-going as versus spirituality in different parts my family, way too varied to have it make sense to plot the whole family on one scale.

Hello! You are invited to participate in a research study about the roles of religion/spirituality (or lack of!) in the lives of individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or queer. The research is being conducted by Melanie Brewster, Ph.D and her team of diverse and LGBTQ affirming researchers in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Columbia University. This study has been approved by the Teachers College IRB (#12-334).

Participants may elect to enter a drawing for one of several $50 Visa gift cards. A donation of $1 will be made to the Trevor Foundation for every fully completed survey. All responses are confidential.

Yesterday, in honor of the Ogre's departure, there was cake at work. I can't eat much cake, I did have a couple of bites, but then he brought me the black bow-tie that had been on the top of it. It was about the size of a real bow-tie, made of black fondant. And I ate it. All of it. I took hours to do it, and still didn't feel very well, but, you know, he had given it to me, so I ate it. I ended up with a black tongue. When I flossed my teeth last night I turned the floss baby blue.

Now, I'm not going to take a picture of today's results, but if you've got a brain like a five-year-old, as I have, and would like to know the results the next day after eating a whole black fondant bow-tie, I will tell you under the cut. )
Okay, you friends who know everything about the Master and Commander series, two questions (maybe it's only two):

1) In that time period, was a Marine always a Marine, or did they enlist in the Army and then sometimes get sent to sea?

2) If you don't know, who should I ask?

(And my tag is absolutely not a promise that I'm going to write anything.)
