I just posted an annoyed bit of rant to my Facebook about that "put GOD back in the Pledge of Allegiance!" stupidity that people keep circulating on Facebook because they have the memories of tse-tse flies and can't be bothered to read an effing Wiki article or do any form of research whatsoever:

I refrain from mentioning - because it's their Facebook, not mine - that when I was in third grade I would say the rest of it, but I started just keeping my mouth shut while the other kids were saying the 'under God' part. I was okay with pledging to the flag and to our country, but I had become increasingly uncomfortable pledging to anyone's god, because I saw this as an attempt to convince us that Christianity was intrinsically part of being American, and I knew we were supposed to have a separation of church and state in this country.

I'm an American. I believe in personal freedom. If we're FREE, we have the right to NOT pledge to any god.

Frankly, as a third-grader, I called it brainwashing. I was born a contrary bitch and didn't want anyone trying to screw with my head. Maybe this all goes back to my parents, what they talked about, my upbringing. And maybe it's genetic, because I'm an awful lot like my mother - quite often more contrary than smart. ;)
