So, what shall we use for a grammar and punctuation reference if Strunk and White is now in the doghouse?

(Copy/pasted from the Wiki on "Elements of Style"):

In criticizing The Elements of Style, Geoffrey Pullum, professor of linguistics at Edinburgh University, and co-author of The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language (2002), said that:

The book's toxic mix of purism, atavism, and personal eccentricity is not underpinned by a proper grounding in English grammar. It is often so misguided that the authors appear not to notice their own egregious flouting of its own rules . . . It's sad. Several generations of college students learned their grammar from the uninformed bossiness of Strunk and White, and the result is a nation of educated people who know they feel vaguely anxious and insecure whenever they write however or than me or was or which, but can't tell you why.[10]

I'd prefer to have something searchable, and online so I can link people to it. Any suggestions?

Now I've really got to go see if the shoe shop has my boots ready - ha, just as I wrote that they called to say they're ready, that's timing for you. :) I also need to dig out my several sets of glasses frames which I have plans for and take them down to the optometrist's. I hope soon to have two sets of driving glasses, one clear and one dark. :) I may have to clean out the stupid, tiny glove box to make room for them.
I was in Sears, today, and overheard a guy with his two little grandkids (the little boy did have some things to say but he mostly just watched this exchange between Grandad and Little Sister).

"Look at this pretty dress. Would you like this pretty dress?"

"Yes."

"Will you sit on the Easter Bunny's lap in this pretty dress?"

Quiet.

"Would you like this pretty dress?"

Quiet.

"You don't have to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap. Would you like this pretty dress?"

Quiet. She was having none of it. The Easter Bunny had gotten connected with that pretty dress in her mind and she was done with that whole idea of pretty dresses.
