I'm having my usual completely useless day off: reading, listening to music on YouTube and generally dorking off.

Soon to follow, below, will be one of my favorite song of the day. They say the working title on this is actually "We Don't Know What The North Pond Hermit Knows," which is kind of a mouthful. I think it's going to be known as "that North Pond Hermit song." The North Pond Hermit was only recently captured (end of last week, I believe) and charged with a thousand counts of burglary, his bail set ridiculously high, and he's become something of an instant folk hero to people here in Maine. Because who hasn't, at times, wanted to run off and hide in the woods? Also, living through the winter - any Maine winter, let alone through the ice storm of '98 - is no mean feat, and he did it. Anyway, tons of funny memes about him, here: http://www.facebook.com/mainememes - although his expression is just heartbreaking. Like, "fuck, I tried to run away, but they dragged me back into this shit." And during one of the worst weeks, too, with the Boston Marathon bombings and the explosion in West, TX.

I'm also impressed with the fact that they got this song out so quickly and it's NOT, as I expected, some slapped-together goofy crap. It's musically quite lovely.

(And, hey, if one guy who, at 19 years old with no particular survival skills, could walk off and stay hidden in the woods for 27 years, why couldn't there still be Sasquatch out there?)

My own week was not that great on a personal level, involving dragging myself to work sick and trying to help people not get fired, with people crying and all. Still, it's not like I have real trouble. Glad I don't have close friends or family who were in Boston. (Yes, I am having flashbacks again to being on the phone with this guy and saying "It's been a bit stressful here," and he said, "Yeah, it's been a bit stressful here, too," and a few minutes later I find out seven of his coworkers were just shot and killed. Laconic New Englanders.)

Book of the day has been "Inheritance," fourth in the 'Eregon' series by Paolini, even though I should really be reading my current Master and Commander, because I'm behind and can't engage with the discussion on M and C read... but, oh well. At the moment going back and forth between "Inheritance" and a bunch of cute 'newspapers,' 'flyers,' and letters from Glitch ("Tin Man" fandom) being posted by TheWatchedPot. She posts more every time I look back. :)
