A sudden influx of ants this evening, on our kitchen counter. We've killed at least 20, I've lost count, and I finally grabbed the Borax box and chucked a pile at one of them. The silverfish haven't been seen in over a week, though. Not since my brother found one in a cup he pulled out of the cupboard. How charming.
In other news of killing things, we did some minor damage on the dandelions a couple of days in the past week. They have been completely uncontrolled on the property for years. One evening we filled the wheelbarrow and it really didn't make much more than a tiny dent.
In news of not killing things, we relocated a young groundhog, as Eor reports. I wish him luck.
Also, the pool is about empty, just a few inches of green scum in the bottom. I hope nothing falls in and is killed - including me. An eight foot drop wouldn't feel good. Eor figured out how to use the recycling pump to remove water, and rigged up a way to pipe the water to areas where it would do little harm. We also used a garden hose to syphon. My coworker Moose came up with that idea, and it was good because it didn't dump huge amounts of water out at once, it just kept trickling all the time.
Night before last I woke up in the middle of the night hearing a dog (or coyote) howling, and woke Eor up worried that a dog might have fallen into the pool, but then realized it wasn't a really distressed noise, just lonely sounding. So I only fretted long enough to disturb his sleep. :)
So very tired. Sleepytime.
