16) "Reading Lolita in Tehran" - Azar Nafisi
I wasn't going to read this one, it was going to get donated to the library sale without ever getting cracked by me, because it was a "#1 New York Times Bestseller" and I generally hate anything that makes that list. I decided to give it a go when a friend asked me why I was opposed to reading it and I said, "Oh, I imagine it's going to be some 'women-helping-women' kind of crap," and she looked quite pained. And I felt like a jerk. Okay, I'm a jerk. There was a lot I didn't like about how she organized and delivered the story, but I ended up deciding it was time well-spent and I'm thinking of sending it to a friend as a surprise gift.
