Thailand: Southeast Asia's 'weed wonderland' - I didn't read the article in depth because I had heard the radio version on my way back from the grocery store this afternoon, and I just wanted to comment that we often say that children and dogs like to have clear rules, but frankly I think everyone likes the rules to be clear. At least if they're clear and you don't like them you can take a particular stand against them. If the rules are unclear everyone starts to make up their own, and that can mean that this cop hits you for something another doesn't. Literally at my work, one parking lot attendant will tell someone who doesn't have a green sticker that they can park in the green spaces, and as soon as they do another attendant will come screaming at them to get the hell out or get banned from the parking lot. This kind of inconsistency is very stressful! I totally get it when people complain to me that they hate OUR inconsistency, and I have to explain that things vary because our equipment is different from place to place.

ETA: Is it potentially relevant that good art usually comes from finding rules to stay within?
