I was trying to decide if I should spoiler that one part for my mom, and after reading your post, I think I'm going to have to. She's going to take it very hard, worse than I did. However, MD doesn't want to know, so I have to talk to my mom when he's not around.
I think I need to just stop talking about the book completely for a while. I can't keep track of who wants to know stuff and who doesn't!
