Passengers yell at us quite often that the TSA is like Nazis, the Shrub is like Hitler, etc. The problem being, I'm not at all sure they're wrong. Erosion is a process that one seldom notices as it's happening.
I don't think so. I think that Saruman taking over the Shire was somewhat analogous to Nazism in Germany.
Remember, at the end of Lord of the Rings, the Shire had been taken over by Saruman and Wormtongue. When the Hobbit contingent of the Fellowship came back to the Shire, they organized the hobbits to kick Saurman and Wormtongue out.
