Ooh - tell me more! I'm missing all the movie news while overseas.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to it! Simply everyone is talking about the slashy subtext. I wonder about that. Do they do it on purpose, or are our brains so slashy that we imagine it? I worry that I can't even tell anymore.

How many spoilers do you want? It was complete cracktastic fanficcy goodness. In one scene Watson calls Holmes "Old Cock" and he calls Watson "Mother Hen." Later they argue and Holmes keeps insisting that the flat is "OUR flat!" and the dog is "OUR dog!" But it's not just isolated moments; every look they give each other and every thing they do in interacting with other people is colored with their relationship.

Irene, contrary to my brother's report (he saw it Christmas Day, and reported to me that all the rumors of slashy subtext were completely true), does bring out some sort of emotional response in Holmes, but it's complex (and actually makes me think RDJ is a pretty good actor). He seems to have a sort of awe, respect and complete mistrust of her.

Just, really, don't go into it expecting anything really deep or period correct in any way. It's totally modern action adventure, and very pretty and fun, and might bring more fans into the fold, but those fans will all be unable to write a coherent sentence. ;)

My brother, Eightball, is NOT a slasher, and he totally saw it. :)

I'm probably going to have to buy it on DVD. I recall thinking that was their plan when they decided to mumble so many of the lines. ;)
