Sometimes having a car almost seems more trouble than it's worth. Almost.
Monday I went out with Teena, so I drove. As it ended out, we shouldn't have bothered to drive. She actually lives only a couple of blocks from me, but I had in mind that we'd go to a particular pizza place out Forest Ave, but when she realized my co-workers were going to be there she asked to not do that, because she didn't feel like being around lots of people that night, so we just went to the little Pizza Hut on Back Cove and walked on the Cove after we ate. Point being, we began looking for a parking space too late at night. Monday is a street cleaning night in this neighborhood, so all the parking near my house is one side of the street only on Mondays. Amazingly, we found a space so close to my house. It seemed too good to be true, so she and I looked all around for a sign that said I couldn't park there, and didn't see one. Well, it WAS too good to be true. I had a $20 ticket on Tuesday morning. Okay, fine. I'll take my lumps, I must have screwed up and not seen a sign.
Yesterday, because it was bright and sunny and I hadn't walked the day before (because, um, I was tired from staying up too late with Teena and so drove to work) I walked to work. Ahfah gave me a ride home and as I jumped out of his truck I pointed out my new car to him, sitting on the curb, curiously lonely. But I didn't think about the absense of cars around it.
eor decided to drive the van to work last night because he hadn't driven it in a couple of days. Six AM he arrives home and asks, "Where'd you park the car?"
*blink-blink* (I'd only had about 5 and a half hours of sleep.) "It's right outside." I knew that was where I'd seen it.
Turns out Wednesday is the other street cleaning day.
$50 later, I have my car back.
New plan: Sunday and Tuesday nights I need to find a parking spot which will be good for the next day, and walk to work the next day so the car can stay in the good spot. If I don't do that (because it's raining or I need to do errands or because I'm just dumb and forget what day of the week it is)
eor needs to drive the car to work on Monday (or Wednesday) night.
Why does it have to be so difficult? It's really hard remembering what day it is. Especially with
eor working overnight, although I'll admit I've never been good at it.
At least there wasn't also a ticket for having parked on the wrong side of the street. I guess I should be grateful for small favors.
