[livejournal.com profile] eor started singing "Driving On 9" this morning (originally by Ed's Redeeming Qualities, covered by The Breeders). I teased him he was doing the Breeders version - "higher pitched, slower, and more breathy." ;) And he teased me that he'd given me the gift that lasts all day - the earworm. Have you ever tried to find ERQ lyrics? An excercise in futility, but I'm doing it anyway. I can find the Breeders version of the lyrics - most people who reference it seem to think it's their song - but the Breeders left out half the verses because they couldn't easily be transferred to a female perspective. ("How old is Cindy? She sure looks like me.") Here I found the description of the song: a sad but quirky song about a man driving to visit his about-to-be remarried ex-wife and a daughter he hasn't seen in years.

ETA: I found the connection... Carrie Bradley was with Ed's Redeeming Qualities and also was with the Breeders.

Just got a phone call from my Dad. He'd left a message on my machine last night and I should have called him back, then. I thought I should not call when I could only talk for about 10 minutes, but... He wanted to double-check my address, but he then decided to mail it out before calling me today. Of course he sent it to my old address AND addressed it to 'Derien.' Which if you hadn't guessed, is not my actual name, so the post office might not forward it. And we only talked for about 10 minutes after all. *sigh*

Is your address on the RDSSCL database correct? Because, I sent you a card to that addy and I'm hoping it arrived.

I'm honestly not sure at the moment, and don't have time to check - I'm late for work. I'll check tonight, hopefully. If it gets returned, hang onto it and I'll get the address updated. If you only just sent it in the last couple of days it's possible that the change of address form I put in today (which doing that is why I'm late for work right now) will catch it and it will get forwarded. If you put my real name on it there shouldn't be any problem.:)

And either way, thank you for sending it, I appreciate the thought.:)

Yep, real name and everything. I'm not sure what day it got mailed, though, as it was on the kitchen table ready to go and when I went to send it, it was gone and my father said he'd mailed it already. It shouldn't have been too long ago, though, but I'm sure you know how fast the post goes from one part of Maine to the next. We shall see.

It got here! Thank you - that's the most bizarre elephant I've ever seen.:)

You should see the skunk I sent Lauren.

I collect elephants, though, so that one jumped out at me on the shelf. I was pleased it was a birthday card so I'd have an excuse to buy it, since that was what I was looking for.
