I was encoding "Christmas Wishes" for posting on my site and noticed that I had reversed Chojiro's name - Tanaka is his family name, so should come first.

The kid he'd saved from the bully seemed a likely prospect.  He'd looked at Chojiro Tanaka as though he were a hero - adoring.

I felt kind of stupid.  Until I then went on to encoding "Remembering Monsters" for Daegaer.rulesthe.net and noticed that [livejournal.com profile] daegaer had made the same mistake in one place.

“There you go,” Crowley said in revulsion.  “Mrs Tanaka said the sick fuck moved out of the city about the same time as she got this flat.  Chojiro Tanaka must have been one of his last city victims.”  (Although at least she has the excuse of that it's someone who's used to Western-style names who makes the mistake, not the character thinking about himself, as I did.)

It's not a stupid mistake to make! Viz (official translators of Bleach) does it all the time, though admittedly they do it on purpose. *mutter mutter pointless Westernisation mutter*

Could [livejournal.com profile] daegaer have done it on purpose as well, though? To indicate that Crowley is Western and different from Chojiro, I mean.

Quite likely, which was why I didn't correct it in the version I posted. (In fact, I change almost nothing, unless it is very very glaringly obviously a mistake.)

*glares at her post, above* I don't know why I didn't qualify that, only I was in a tremendous hurry when I got to posting on LJ.
