The electricians just left - they replaced our kitchen light with the new one we bought on the weekend, so now it's all set and if the building burns down it won't be our fault. :) And there was a wire in that mess which insisted on staying hot when it all should have been turned off. He did some cutting and splicing, so presumably it's correct, now. His partner thought it had something to do with the fridge, so he had me unplug that while the one guy was up there poking around.
When I went to plug it back in, just now, I noticed (again?) that there's a three-prong to two-prong adapter in the mix, there. Three prong (fridge) plugged into 3-to-2 adapter, then adapter plugged into a three-prong outlet. Does this make sense? I know there must be a reason for it, and
eor probably has a good guess as to what it is, but it still scares me a little. Electricity scares me.
The talking partner (the one who stayed on the floor) said that lightbulbs blowing out is a common problem in Portland, because Central Maine Power started running a slightly higher voltage a few years ago in order to keep up with new construction going up. Because, with most appliances they don't like running at a lower voltage than 120, it shortens their lifespan, but slightly high is not a problem for anything besides lightbulbs. But, you can buy 130V / 60W lightbulbs at Maine Hardware, and they'll last much longer. So, I guess that's what I'll have to do. Tomorrow.
This has been a productive week, so far. I also got my new glasses ordered, yesterday. About damned time - I had the exam back in November. Maybe between more light in the kitchen and new glasses these annoying headaches might ease up a little.
