Don't buy china flats. I've never been to a Ren Faire, but at Great Northeastern War no one gives a sweet shit what's on your feet. I, in fact, where Tevas all weekend. Too much walking involved to not have comfortable shoes. :)
I guess I've been listening to people like holyschist too much - she's very into being completely one hundred percent accurate in time and place for her chosen character, making all her garb and everything. I know ren faires are not like that - fairy outfits and tails are popular. Eor used Tevas a couple of years ago with his peasant outfit - at least his are brown and mostly leather.
