Mainertoo gave me a stern talking-to about how I should become a Lead, this evening.  He says Leads don't really take much more crap than regular screeners, because they can always pass it up to Supervisors.  All you have to do is a little more maintenance stuff and make sure people rotate, and in return you get a lot more mobility - you can go get a cup of coffee if you want - and get paid $8,000 more per year.  He's not the only person who's been telling me things like that, lately.  Numerous people have been pushing me for the last couple of years to try for a Lead position, and I keep resisting, but...  I think I'm weakening.  $8,000.  And I DO know how to do most of the Lead stuff, I've done it all at one point or another.  I don't know, I don't know.

I guess I don't understand the problem. If you're being offered the position, which allows you more mobility and more money, and all you have to do is what you've been doing anyway...why not take the position?

You don't need to let whatever fears you might have about being an authority or taking on extra responsibilities hamper you. I can tell you from experience that decent people are not automatically transformed into raving assholes when given a management or authority position. :-)

No, what I do on an everyday basis is not the same as the Lead position. What I meant was that I know I can do the Lead duties because I've stepped in and done then when they've needed me to in the past, on a very temporary basis (for a day or part of a day, or had a few things shoved off on me when the Lead was too busy). I wouldn't want to be responsible for those duties on a daily all the time basis. I wouldn't have any time left to my own thoughts.

I think your last sentence "Speaks volumes" that's why you don't want to do it- I agree with the statement just because decent people get promoted they are not 'autoassholed'
on point you know we all think you'd be great ....only you know about the having
time for your own thoughts.
