A co-worker of mine has been sick for like 6 or 8 months and his doctor couldn't figure it out for a long time, but he finally has. Eight months ago he had his wisdom teeth out, and his dentist never did any follow up on the extractions. He got an infection and it's now in his jaw. Now he's going to have - well, I'm not sure if it's only the next molar forward, so four all together, but at least four more teeth out. And his insurance has refused to pay to have false ones made.
I insisted he has a malpractice case, but he says he's been told that he can't prove he didn't already have this infection before having the teeth out. Another co-worker pointed out that if he did the dentist who did the extractions should have noticed. Co-worker A says he's just too lazy to bother, and I said, "No, you're too emotionally and physically drained from being sick for EIGHT MONTHS."
The poor guy has been written up numerous times for calling in sick so often even though he was obviously sick as a dog. That right there is a lot of emotional strain - it sucks that he has a record at work of being a slacker when he really was fighting illness nearly every day he WAS at work.
