They are a pretty interesting bunch, which is funny because the job itself is dumb and boring. I'm a screener at the airport. It pisses me off that there's a woman writing a book about how 'incompetent' we are, and also has articles she's running in the Portland Press Herald, but we're not allowed to respond to her in any way. She knows nothing about my co-workers - we've got some smart people working there.
Mind you, I don't think much of the organization - the management also treats us, the screeners, as though we are dumb - they acted as though it was a huge honor to change our official title to "officers," it gives us so much more self-respect don't you know. Yet they continue to act like we're all replaceable cogs and completely unworthy of any consideration as individuals. And I have to agree with her that the rules don't make sense - anyone who works there learns to throw up their hands and go, "It's the government!" or they don't last.
