Via beowabbit I've been reading an interesting article (yesterday morning, actually, because I just noticed I didn't post this when it was timely); Prop 8 Struck Down: The Decision.

And in bad reading, someone named yujiao spammed my last entry. I deleted the comments, marked them spam and blocked her/him.

So great to hear about what happened... I just hope that it will be confirmed once and for all.

Vey interesting. I like that first highlighted paragraph which explains very clearly one of the common (among angry, right wing nutters) misinterpretations about democracy.

Point 55 is such obvious common sense that you'd think it wouldn't have to be mentioned, and yet the opponents of gay marriage always act like there is some sort of threat.

I'm reeling from the large volume of COMMON SENSE!

There is never any once and for all with right wing nuts. They're like guerrilla fighters. But it's a huge step in what I think of as an overall right-thinking movement - base decisions of law on scientifically proven facts. It's cool!

I know, isn't it amazing!? And in the U.S.? I thought I'd never see the day. :) I hope this is a portent of things to come. Imho all legal decisions should be backed up with scientific findings. :)

Would a supreme court ruling settle it, or would they still be able to overturn it?

OT, I started watching Stephen Fry in America *properly* for the first time, and I was like "ooh! That's where [livejournal.com profile] derien lives!" :D

The day he started shooting the Maine piece I was all "WHERE WILL HE BE???" I considered going to Becky's Diner... possibly I even did, I can't recall, but I think that was a day when I was planning to go out for breakfast with Pheobe, anyway, and we often go to Becky's... because it was featured in National Geographic a while back and is always crowded with People From Away (after the morning rush of fishermen leave).

And yet I still haven't seen the show!! :( :(

Yeah, the yujiao account spammed me, too. Thanks for reminding me to delete and mark as spam — I hadn’t been logged in as me when I first noticed.

Yeah, but the thing is, their kids don’t hate gay people. Their kids may still be right-wing nuts 20 years from now, but they won’t be homophobic right-wing nuts. They’ll be anti-immigrant right-wing nuts, or whatever, but homophobia is dying, and has been at varying rates and from various starting points all over the world, and while the right-wing nuts may be able to slow that down a fraction of a percent, I think they’re too late to reverse or stop it.

What’s more, the fact that the right-wing nuts hate gay people and their kids think that’s silly is going to increase the likelihood that their kids roll their eyes and think it’s silly when the right-wing nuts rant about the immigrants or the “activist judges” or “death panels” or the Kenyan-born Muslim in the White House or bike trials being a Communist U.N. plot. So it will actually decrease the likelihood of the kids adopting their parents’ right-wing nuttery at all.

(All gross generalizations of course, but generally true in aggregate, I think.)

Yeah, when one ravening opinion is clearly off the wall it does make the others a little suspect, so you're probably right that it will over-all help. :)
