(Edited to add a warning: Don't read the comments if you don't want spoilers for The Maltese Falcon.)

I have, finally, "The Gun Seller" (by Hugh Laurie) in my very own hot, sweaty little hand, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kryptyd, who is an angel of sweetness. I had been looking for this book for... I want to say a year. A while, anyway.

And now I have it. *is stunned* And, no, I don't care a bit about it's slightly tattered condition - I beat books up to the extent that one of my friends ceased loaning me his because I do that (same thing you do, [livejournal.com profile] kryptyd) of carrying them around to read while I'm eating. Actually, I'm sure I'm much harder on books than you are. I should find a way to protect them.

I think "Swallows and Amazons" is going to get shoved aside yet again.

BTW, I finished "The Maltese Falcon" and I think...
Effie's reaction at the end was because she had a crush on Brigid. Eor isn't sure he agrees. What do you all think?

Eor felt that the gay guy got a decent portrayal, but I was a little annoyed that when he attacked Spade he was completely ineffectual. He could have made some impression, or done something other than flail. But I was glad that he attacked Spade because Spade punched the pretty boy he had a crush on. ;)

I also finally finished "From the Earth to the Moon / Round the Moon" - Jules Verne. At this point if I never read another Jules Verne again I'll be happy. Sheesh, talk about dry and boring. There's really nothing to say about it, it was too dull. Kind of like the rice I'm having for breakfast came out. Milk, butter, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg and it's still bland. :P
