Someone from one of the campaigns called about an hour ago to remind me that it's voting day. I had completely forgotten. Then I saw a post on one of my communities mentioning that it's Guy Fawkes day. Crappy weather for fireworks, eh [livejournal.com profile] groundctrl? *

Why did I never realize before that they're the same day?** Do you suppose it was set that way on purpose, or just coincidence? I've got to think that Guy Fawkes would still have been strongly in the memories of the colonists at the time of the revolution.

ETA 11/7:
*Obviously I don't keep track of the actual date and didn't realize I was reading something from yesterday. The actual 5th here it was NOT raining cats.

**And when I say 'same day' I wasn't thinking about the fact that the first Tuesday is not always the same day. But sometimes I suppose it might be the 5th, and it still doesn't seem farfetched to me that the colonists might have been thinking of holding their own elections as being symbolic of the overthrow of Pariament and the King.
