this survey, and if you choose to go to her journal and do it, also, don't miss the fact that the last question is for an email address if you don't mind her contacting you about your answers - I deleted that last line from my answers.
Name: Derien
Favorite Tropes in Fic: Good friends realize they love each other, Triads/compersion ('seeing you happy makes me happy'), established relationship, D/s play, tied up.
Fandoms: Holmes, Wodehouse (Jeeves and Wooster, Psmith), Discworld, Good Omens, Tolkien, Hitchhiker's Guide, George Manville Fenn, Saki, Master and Commander, Bujold (Vorkosigan series), Raffles, Red Dwarf, Star Trek
Which of these Fandoms have you been in the longest: Might be a tossup between Star Trek and Holmes.
Favorite characters (for RPF, favorite people): Watson, Bertie Wooster, Mike Jackson (from Wodehouse's Psmith stories), Gimli, Arthur Dent, Aziraphale, Bill Gedge, Clovis, Stephen and Jack, Miles Vorkosigan, Bunny Manders, Dave Lister, Spock.
Least favorite characters: ummm. Kirk? Raffles.
Please select no more than two least favorite characters and describe why: Kirk is a self-centered ass. So is Raffles.
Favorite past and present pairings (Please list the fandom with the pairing): Holmes/Watson, Watson/Murray, Holmes/Watson/Lestrade - Doyle; Bertie/Jeeves, Mike/Psmith - Wodehouse; Maladict/Polly - Discworld, Crowley/Aziraphale - Good Omens; Gimli/Legolas, Sam/Frodo and Merry/Pippin - Tolkien; Arthur/Ford - Hitchhiker's Guide; Bracy/Gedge, Banner/Gregg - Fenn, Aubrey/Maturin - Master and Commander; Ivan/Byerly - Bujold; Raffles/Bunny - Raffles; Lister/Rimmer - Red Dwarf; McCoy/Spock - Star Trek.
Which of these pairings do you read the most of? Holmes/Watson
Which of these pairings would you say is/are your favorite(s)? Holmes/Watson
Which of these pairings would you like to see more written for/would consider a rare pair? Mike/Psmith; Ivan/Byerly; Merry/Pippin; Banner/Gregg
Please select no more than two pairings and describe why you like them: Mike and Psmith work so well off each other, complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses, and Mike is such an all-round good egg, but kind of shy and inarticulate, but he can tell just how people feel and is very compassionate. Psmith seems self-centered, initially, but he cares for Mike and I suspect is improved by his association with Mike. Ivan and Byerly I see as almost the same (Byerly is quite similar to Psmith) so this needs no explanation. And, hm, Watson and Holmes are also kind of similar, as are Bunny and Raffles (naturally, since they were intended as a direct spoof of Watson and Holmes). Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin complement each other in different ways, Stephen being intellectual, secretive and depressed and Jack being great at being a captain and generally good humored and outgoing. Oh, wait, maybe that's still the same, kind of.
Please give some recs as to the fics you feel best illustrate why you like this/these pairing(s): I don't have a lot of recs, but here's a Mike/Psmith for you... http://community.livejournal.com/indeedsir/85074.html
In fandom, which character types do you tend to gravitate toward? Thoughts on why? The person who's more of the ordinary sort, a decent every-man who has no special skills and might be scared, but will still choose to do the right thing or something couragous.
As a child, what were your favorite fairy tales/myths/tall tales: Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.
In general, how many fics do you read with romantic-lead female characters? How many gen/non romance fics with female leads? Only Polly/Maladict from "Monsterous Regiment" I think. Not many.
If you write fic, how many fics have you written with romantic-lead female characters? How many gen/non romance fics with female leads? Polly/Maladict. I wrote an original story with a female lead (gen).
Do you have thoughts on why? I haven't seen many female characters who were well-written, outside of Pratchett's work.
