I guess it's stress - it's been there for a week and is not getting better, and wow did it hurt when I sneezed, earlier. I'll be glad when this training gig is over. Tomorrow they want me to drive a half hour south, be at work at 7am, get a company car (an SUV), and then turn around and drive north for 2.25 hours. Can you believe it? I played every angle I could - "Couldn't I drive my own car? Could I take the car home tonight so I can cut my total commute by an hour? Is there a smaller car I could take?" Nope. There is a slightly smaller car, a Sebring, but someone else has it for a week. Ironically enough, the guy who has the Sebring is at least seven feet tall, he would have fit the SUV much better than I do. Ah well, I can drive it, I drove the van last winter. But what a waste of resources.
Am reading "The Kalahari Typing School for Men," the fourth in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, and I'm enjoying it - it is at once amusing and soothing. I do wonder, though, how it is that people who get upset about racism are fine with these books. They seem so "noble savage" to me, as though they're designed to allow privileged people (I was going to say 'Westerners' and then I realized that would be too narrow) to at once say, "Oh, how nice these people are," and at the same time feel superior. Still, soothing.
I need to go stretch, and listen to my clock tick. That's also soothing, and I need plenty of soothing and comforting at the moment. Had a cider, and am contemplating hot chocolate. Also, an early bedtime.
