I opened the dryer to discover still-damp clothing from yesterday, all tinged pink. It's only a matter of time, I guess we all wash something red in hot water with other colors at some point, but right now Eor's khakis are pink, and he has a brownish shirt (I think it was a murky green, originally) with interestingly pink highlights. As they weren't dry yet, I've put the whole load back in, set the water really hot, and have put in a generous amount of lemon juice. My thought is that they probably can't get much worse, at this point, and I think the other things in the load probably won't be hurt by the lemon juice, if they do have stains that I didn't see. (I'd have used white vinegar, but we don't have any.)

At any rate, those khakis are all bedraggled at the cuffs, so if they stay pink it's no great loss. I hope everything else comes out okay. My black watch flannel looked rather brighter than I remembered, which seems odd - usually you'd expect green to look more muddy if it's been pinked. *crosses fingers* I'll let you know how this goes.

I'm also working on getting an old stain out of the mattress pad, with repeated applications of hydrogen peroxide. So this is my exciting day off - removing stains. :)

I also read a long short story by Joe Haldeman about 'future' soldiers coming back from interstellar war to find that in the five subjective years they've been gone it's been twenty years on Earth and things are quite different, with the result that they re-up in the military because they can't deal with civilian life. I put 'future' in quotes because he probably wrote it in 1975 and it's set in 2019.

Slinky/Mistress of the Night had an interview, yesterday, for the job of my new boss (the position I was told I was not qualified for a few weeks ago). I really hope she gets it! I'm a little nervous, as they only asked her four questions, but one can never tell. She was asking me, yesterday, before she went into the interview, what my old boss, The Ogre, used to do. I told her truthfully that nobody was ever sure. He was supposed to find answers to my questions and interface with other departments to get schedules made for classes, but he wasn't that good at either of those things.
