What I actually did today was work with people who'd failed their first attempt at a test and were preparing to take it again. One guy - I've mentioned him before, he's the old guy who was taken out on a stretcher and was back at work the next day, and someone commented that he sets the bar pretty high for the rest of us, to live up to such toughness - he mentioned that he probably should have asked to put off taking the test because he was not feeling well, it being four days after his chemo treatment. "My wife told me not to come in to work, but I wanted the holiday pay. I should have listened to her, she's always right." I said, "Well, perhaps she was," and he insisted, "No perhaps. She is always right. She's very intelligent." Good man. :)

"The Winter Queen (a Fandorin mystery)" by Boris Akunin became book #11. Eor hated this book, but I found it mostly rather charming. Up to the end it was charming, but I didn't like the end. Eor's right, though - the cover calls it a mystery, but it's not. It's an action-adventure tale, with a very grim and peculiar sense of humor. Well, I guess that's to be expected; it's translated from Russian. :) I have this feeling that someone suggested it to me or I'd heard about it somewhere and that was what got me to pick it up, but possibly I just wanted to take a chance on something Russian set in the 1800.
